University of Central Arkansas Steinway Fund

The Steinway 88 keys program gives you the opportunity to directly influence the education of our students.

Every piano has 88 keys. By purchasing a key, your generosity will give our students the opportunity to perform with the world’s most respected concert piano.

About Us

The University of Central Arkansas College of Fine Arts and Communication seeks to be Arkansas’ preeminent provider of undergraduate education in the arts. The college’s primary mission is the preparation of the next generation of artists, educators and communicators. Our Department of Music is an artistic community of over 200 music majors and a faculty of 44 artists and music academicians. With a specialist for every aspect of the music curriculum, the Department of Music makes it possible for students to reach their highest potential. UCA Public Appearances, a division within the college, develops and presents performing arts programming to the entire Central Arkansas community. Public Appearances’ home is the Donald W. Reynolds Performance Hall – a 1,200 seat, state of the art theatre. Reynolds hosts over 250 events each year including their own season of events, Conway Symphony Orchestra and Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre.

Our Goal

Ultimately, our goal is to raise funds for a Steinway Model D.

Our goal is to replace our current concert piano with a new Steinway D grand piano. This piano will be used year round in a multitude of performances. The current concert piano is more than 60 years old and does not match the standard of professionalism that this space communicates to its audience. Pianists and other performers, as well as the audience deserve an instrument of sufficient quality that will elevate achievement while remaining in this exceptional space from now until well into the future.

The Piano

Steinway & Sons Model D Concert Grand Piano

At 8′ 11¾” (274 cm) in length, this majestic musical instrument — the pinnacle of concert grands — is the overwhelming choice of the world’s greatest pianists and for anyone who demands the highest level of musical expression.

“Once you start playing on a Steinway Model D, then you play differently. They are a different animal. And that is a privilege to have.” – Mitsuko Uchida (Steinway Artist)
